CALAMITY DAY PLAN
February 25, 2010
Dear Parents and Students:
At the current time, the Franklin Local School District is required to make up eight (8) calamity days. In developing our calamity day make-up plan, we examined what we thought was in the best interest of our students. As a result, the following dates are scheduled as calamity make-up days for the Franklin Local School District for this school year.
Saturday, March 6, 2010
Saturday, March 13, 2010
Thursday, April 1, 2010
Monday, April 5, 2010
Tuesday, April 6, 2010
Friday, May 28, 2010
Tuesday, June 1, 2010
The time schedule for make-up days students attending Philo Junior High School will be 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.; for students attending Philo High School 7:40 a.m. – 1:40 p.m.; for students attending Roseville Elementary School and Roseville Middle School will be 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; for students attending Duncan Falls Elementary School will be 9:05 a.m. – 2:35 p.m.; and, for students attending the Franklin Local Community School the make-up day time schedule will be from either 8:00 a.m. – 1:40 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. depending upon their current time schedules.
We tried to schedule days that would allow Philo High School and Franklin Local Community School students and staff to have additional time to prepare for the Ohio Graduation Tests which will be administered the week of March 15-19, 2010, and for our students and staff in grades 3-8 to have additional time to prepare for the Ohio Achievement Assessments which will be administered beginning on April 19, 2010. These days also help our seniors to stay on track for graduation as scheduled on Sunday, May 30, 2010.
The school day will also be extended by one hour on March 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19, 2010. This will allow us to make up one day of school. This also allows the Philo High School and Franklin Local Community School staff and students to have additional time each day that week in the afternoon to help prepare students for the next day’s Ohio Graduation Test.
If we miss additional days, we will include Wednesday, June 2 and Thursday, June 3, 2010 to the list of days at the end of the year.
If a school event is already planned for a Saturday, then we plan to treat it as a field trip and still have the event.
